Mission Impossible: Clean Car

Nov 15, 2011 13:53

By: Elizabeth Nelson

I’ll preface this blog with the statement: I love my children. I really do. They’re wonderful. My life is better because of my two girls.

Here’s another true statement. My life is messier because of my two girls.

(Stop reading here, and watch the video at the bottom of the  page. Then come back and read the rest.)

I didn’t use that commercial to try and sell you insurance, or to complain that my children say “Mommy, Mommy, Mommy” nonstop while in the car.  I chose to show you that clip because the first time I saw it, I laughed so hard, I nearly passed out. I was gasping for air, while holding my stomach. I hadn’t seen such a funny commercial in years. The reason I love this commercial, is because this is my car.

I long to have a neat car. I want my car to be perfectly organized, and clean. The truth is I have a 3-year old, and a 1-year-old. These two toddlers make it nearly impossible for me to have a clean car.

I’m constantly finding crackers and cheerios in the cracks and crevices of the car. Every time we get in the car, my girls bring books or toys along for the ride. These items pile up in the foot wells. Soon the back seat of my car is heaped with toddler paraphernalia.

If I didn’t know better, I would be sure there was a tree planted in my car somewhere. A tree that was losing all of its leaves and seed pods this fall. My car is full of leaves of every shape, size and color. My girls pick up every type of nature item they find. Twigs, leaves, nuts, rocks, flowers, and even bugs. They all make it into the car. None of them make it out. I wonder if this makes my car a rolling nature museum?

So yes, mayhem is in the back seat of my car, only there’s more than sippy cups and cheerios getting thrown around.
