Oregon To Expand Marine Reserves
UNDATED (AP) - The Legislature has approved an expansion of
Oregon's small system of marine reserves. The House voted 57-2
yesterday to pass the bill creating three new marine reserves in
state waters, for a total of five. Senate Bill 1510 now goes to the
governor, who says he will sign it. The legislation ends more than
a decade of battling between commercial fishermen, conservation
groups and coastal communities over the idea of closing some areas
to fishing to give marine life a sanctuary.
